Returning a Lost Wallet?
How many people would return a wallet on the ground? How many will steal the wallet or the money inside? The website called WalletTest.com set up an experiment where 100 wallets were dropped in front of hidden cameras. 74% of people returned them safely, while 26% kept the wallets.
Here are the detailed results of the experiment. It's nice to see that the majority of the people were honest. However, there wasn't much temptation. The wallet's contents consisted of only 2 dollars, ten pennies, a fake $50 gift certificate and a few other things with no value. I wonder if there were a lot more cash, would the stats change?

I have personally had someone return a wallet that I left on a public transit bus.
I didn't think anyone would turn it in to lost and found . I was heading home in the car and decided to call the bus station and to my surprise someone turned it in.
Beleave it or not there are still some nice people out there.

What's the story behind that wallet? Hmmmm....
I never thought I would lose my wallet (it's a constant companion), but on one of the season's first warm Spring days, I cleaned/waxed my car and I even applied tire shine. Took it for air in tires, then to fill-up gas--doing "Self-Serve" I swiped my credit card and laid my wallet on the trunk, near the gas filler door (wanted to remember to put the receipt in it when done). Another guy came over looking at the car, asking about the low front air-dam design--pointing to it, and talking to me, just as I hung up the fuel nozzle and tore off my receipt. I walked over to look at front of car to see what he was talking about, and we talked for about a minute, and someone pulled up behind my car, waiting to re-fuel. I shoved the gas receipt in my pants pocket, jumped into my car, and drove out--oblivious to my wallet perilously on its trunk! The driveway to gas station had a "bump" and I turned right, heading home. It was an awful sensation when I felt my back right pocket about 45 minutes later--deflated (minus my wallet), and I got weak at the knees. I would have sworn it was in my back right pocket still! I ran from my kitchen to garage to search car (nothing), and realized what I had done! I got the shakes, deciding whether to go looking for it along the road or to look up credit card company numbers. Just then, my phone rang--a "good Samaritan" asked for me, said she had seen my wallet laying on the road, about a quarter mile from the gas station. She knew the neighborhood, and she would bring it right over to me. It had been flattened considerably, the buttery leather scratched, and it had obviously been driven over by a few vehicles. This kind senior citizen lady saw it, and she said she drove past, pulled over, and walked back to get it. It had over $300 in it, all still there, plus various licenses and credit cards, etc. I gave her $100--she didn't want to accept, but I told her she was a lifesaver! Another nice person still out there. :)
