Wallet Style Preferences?
I would have assumed that bifold wallets are the most popular for men. But this Kiplinger's article says trifold wallets are still the most popular. It quoted one 1996 survey that showed trifolds are three times as popular as bifolds for men under 20.
The main advantage of a bifold wallet over a trifold is that they're thinner since they spread out the contents over a wider area. Also, there's one less fold. A thin wallet not only makes it less visible in pants but also reduces the stress on the stitching and other parts of the wallet that may crack. So the bifold wallet should last longer.
According to the article, the main reason why trifolds still are the most popular is due to habit. Men get trifold wallets when they're young and stick with this style as they age.

Here is a very sad tale of a trusted wallet:

It sounds as though it was a classic bifold, with the attached flap window, and it provided great service to the owner! I've preferred the bifold design, after starting with a trifold, because the leather softens more and adapts, actually keeping it compact and comfortable in my back pocket. I could really relate to this writer's loss!
Thanks for posting the link and the comment! Never heard about a wallet being used as a pillow before...
Another guy's attachment to his ever-so-personal wallet:

From billfolds to pocket secretaries, the wallet is one of the most personal items a man carries all day, every day.It is a classic international billfold model with two currency sections and eight credit card slots. It is a rich, nutty brown that has darkened with age and the leather, though quite thick, is still soft.
I need choose a beautiful wallet for my friend. And I looked for one http://www.sanseed.com/fashionable-studded-pu-leather-wallet-available-to-three-colors-hb072132.html, I don't know if she like it. How about this one?
